On August 8, 2025, research vessel Tan Kah Kee (RV TKK) made her inaugural port call at Tanjung Priok Port (Jakarta) after completing the second leg of the “XMU at Sea” Undergraduate Training Cruise, marking the 75th anniversary of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations.
The opening ceremony at Tanjung Priok Port was attended by Mr. Wang Lutong, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia; Prof. Arif Satria, Rector of IPB University; Dr. Amarulla Octavian, Vice Chairman of Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency; and Prof. Shi Dalin, Vice President of Xiamen University (XMU).

RV TKK became the first Chinese research vessel to host public open house in Indonesia, drawing students, researchers, industry representatives, XMU alumni in Indonesia and other local communities. Over the two-day open days, visitors toured the vessel, learning about her history, cutting-edge facilities and equipment and vital role in supporting XMU’s marine research. Moreover, they attended experienced interactive science activities guided by XMU scientists and students.

The event enhanced public awareness of ocean science and strengthened educational and cultural ties between China and Indonesia. Following the visit, a China-Indonesia joint marine geophysical survey will be conducted onboard before RV TKK sails to Malaysia for the next training cruise leg.
