On April 2, upon the university’s 102nd anniversary, an open house was held by Marine Operations of XMU (MarOps) and the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences of XMU (COE) onboard RV TKK in the International Cruise Center. Nearly 600 XMU alumni, faculty, and students toured the ship onboard.

At this year’s open house, volunteers from COE offered visitors tours and fascinating narratives about Tan’s lifelong stories, the university’s history, marine sciences, ocean research work, and marine culture. Visitors could get a close-up look on the ship, from walking through the versatile labs and viewing scientific research equipment personally to watching interesting videos of marine sciences and diving into other interactive activities. This rare open house provided an opportunity for the XMU community to be exposed to marine culture, and develop a better understanding of oceangoing exploration.

In the future, RV TKK will continue to be committed to promoting marine culture, extending the scope of ocean science studies, and increasing public awareness of marine conservation, so that more people can access and participate in marine sciences.
