On June 3, 2021, Marine Operations (XMU) and Shambhala Charity, an NGO founded in 2015 to benefit children in rural areas, jointly held “Mountain-to-Sea Ocean Science Lecture” via video link and on hand that provided the children from six elementary schools in Lv-chun County with a chance diving into more ocean facts.

What are the differences in taste between ocean and lake fish?
Why the ocean is not just blue?
Is there any life in the deep ocean?
Various questions relevant to ocean that had been long lingering in the kids’ mind were answered by captain of R/V TKK, chief scientist, and other cruise participants of KK2101 cruise.

At Longding Elementary School, Weidi Yang, a professional biological oceanographer, along with his colleagues from XMU, offered a lively science lecture on marine life to the children. They appreciated the underwater world with the VR equipment, and tasted the seafood that they initially saw in the class, such as papery dried shrimps and tasty jellyfish.

Scientists and teachers in this lecture presented the children in remote mountainous areas with vast oceans, while sowing an ocean-loving seed in their little hearts.
